12.0 Conclusion

MARINAIR will:

be capable of meeting continuing air travel demands well into the 22nd century, but in particular will meet the problem of providing adequate runway capacity within the next 30-year prediction horizon.
be capable of linking with and working in partnership with the existing and expanding airport operations of the UK.
be capable of linking with existing and planned air and land transport systems.
provide the largest air freight/cargo facility in Europe.
be available as a 24 hour facility.
fit well within the long term planning strategy for the region and the capital city.
be solely financed by private investment.

MARINAIR will provide sufficient capacity to meet the growth in demand for air travel in both the medium and long term, with the least disruptive impact on man made and natural environments.

MARINAIR is the only environmentally acceptable option.

The potential of new runways at MARINAIR will alleviate the development pressures that are so resisted by communities affected by existing airports and will allow the retention, and possible extension, of night flight restrictions at those existing airports.

Finally, perception is important in solving problems and setting policy. MARINAIR will be the symbol of a new approach. It provides an opportunity to create an air transport facility of scale and design innovation, for service throughout the 21st century which shall be a new and exciting showcase for British initiative and skills, yet with minimal environmental impact.
